There are hotels in Acapulco that will take up to 18 months to operate

Alejandro Dominguez Aveleyrapresident of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Companies explained that between 12 and 18 months must happen so many of those Hotels were destroyed by Hurricane Otis.

In an interview with Joaquín López-Dóriga for his space on Radio Formula, he explained that only 10 percent of the hotels in Acapulco have insurance for this type of natural disaster.

The hotels we have are talking about at least 12 to 18 months before they can operate again. Remember that many hotels don’t have insurance like others, but most don’t,” he said.

“Practically it should be 10 percent with this coverage, broad insurance against consequential damages, that if a building or a hotel remains and is rebuilt anew, the payrolls and the budgeted income is continuously paid, he pointed out.

Domínguez Aveleyra indicated that many hotels in the city were reported as “total loss,” and accused of a “poor” response by the authorities to respond to a situation of this dimension.

Acapulco was destroyed, not just the hotels but the whole city. They reported a total loss of hotels,” he said.

“The city is in chaos, the population itself does not care about it, it is stealing from department stores and supermarkets and the problem will be worse because there is no food for the population. We have taken the tourist who was here the last few days. We have 9 percent of these people come back,” he said.

Hurricane Otis impacted as a category 5 on Wednesday on the coast of Guerrero, in the Mexican Pacific, where it caused 27 deaths, and thousands of injuries and left the coast without communication with land for almost the whole day, due to the closure of the main roads. and the lack of communication capacity through telephone and internet services, among the damage to businesses.

president Andrés Manuel López Obrador This Friday he promised a slow and quick repair of the damage caused by Hurricane Otis in the port of Acapulco, while the opposition accused him of being slow to respond to help the population.

“We will not leave Acapulco until it is restored and back to normal,” he said during his morning press conference.
