There has been a significant increase in sales tax revenue from 2020 in the Capital Region, Statewide - Daily Gazette

ALBANY – Sales tax collection across the state had grown strongly in November 2021 as compared to the same month last year, the state comptroller’s office said this week.

In addition, sales tax revenue has recovered from last year’s COVID-induced slowdown: for the first 11 months of 2021, collections are higher than the same period in 2019, when the economy was operating at full strength.

“As has been the case over the past several months, November sales tax collections improved significantly compared to the previous year,” state Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli said in a news release. “While the bulk of holiday spending is expected to be reflected in December collections, November collections could benefit from purchases earlier this year.”

The figures released for November are an estimate. Actual figures for the 12 months of 2021 will be collated and released in January.
