Studied by Dr. Pablo Badr, Magister Dean of Medicine Careers at UNS compass 24, The teacher and doctor give an account, based on their contact with students and graduates, of how careers work in this city and how it differs from other homes of higher studies.
“The medical degree at our university is quite new as it works with an orientation towards the first level of care, a lot of work is done at the community level and the student body has internships from the first to the last day of the degree, which is very is only professional”, indicated in the program “it’s never too late”,
He positively compared the impression of studying at UNS, because in the medical universities of Buenos Aires or La Plata, practicum is an approach for students that is carried out at the end of the degree.
“One issue has to do with the development of professional skills that we propose and develop from university, but also an example to do with socialization where the student body, through contact with patients and professionals in the health system, advances know-how. formally the place where they are going to present themselves as professionals; in fact, they know it much more than what happens to the traditional careers students come into contact with at the end of the course,” he said. .
Badr explained that from the dean’s office he conducted a survey to analyze how educational modalities and career course bases might affect graduates’ choice of specialty and the location in which they study. They were going to practice.
“What we found is that our graduates are more willing to work in specialties at the first level of care than they are in clinical specialties. As an example, nationally, 4 percent of graduates have family medicine as a specialty. In our careers, that figure rose to 15 percent,” he said.
Dean concedes that “there is no shortage of doctors” but “they are badly distributed”.
“Argentina has a rate of doctors per thousand inhabitants similar to Europe. We can see 17 doctors per thousand inhabitants in the Autonomous City and 1.7 doctors per thousand inhabitants in Santiago del Estero. From 2014 to the present, we can see 13 public medical careers. 26 and with a federal distribution, there are now some provinces that do not have careers”, he said.
