death row residence change
These are California death row inmates from Riverside and San Bernardino counties participating in the Condemned Prisoner Transfer Pilot Program. The men were transferred from San Quentin State Prison to the listed current facility. The women were transferred from death row housing at a Central California women’s facility to that facility’s general population housing.

Joseph R. avila
RJ Donovan Correctional Facility, San Diego. In 1991, Robert Navarro Jr. and Raul Moncada were stabbed to death during an argument over a woman in Riverside.
Raymond A Barrera
Kern Valley State Jail. Killed gang rivals Ruben “Toker” Zavala, Juan “Spooks” Perez and Jose “Fleco” Venegas in San Jacinto in 2013.
Michael R. Bergener
Salinas Valley State Jail. Burger killed William Arias, a convenience store clerk, in a $50 heist on Halloween 1980 in Riverside.
Central California Women’s Facility, Chowchilla. Along with James Marlowe, Corinna Novice was kidnapped and murdered in the Redlands in 1986. He was also convicted of a second murder.
RJ Donovan. Along with Daniel Cervantes, Thermals shot and killed Daniel Kuzawa in 2008. He was found with his wrist and neck tied with an electric cable.
Earl Ellis Green
Salinas Valley. In 2010, Riverside Police Officer Ryan Bonamino was shot and killed in Fairmount Park, Riverside.
Christopher G. jasso
California Correctional Institute, Tehachapi. Cab driver Carlos Rafael Cuellar shot Cardona during a robbery at Indio in 2003.
Jose L. Leon
California Correctional Institute. In 2003, his ex-girlfriend’s 13-year-old brother, Austin Perez, and his grandmother, Hope Ragland, were stabbed to death in Corona in 2003.
CCWF. In 2009, along with boyfriend Naresh Naren, tortured his 2-year-old son until he died of corona.
Louis A. Mendoza
California Correctional Institute. Arranged the murder of four gang members, brothers Gilbert and Johnny Agudo, and cousins Marcelino and Anthony Luna, in San Bernardino in 2000 in the case of the so-called dead presidents.
Joseph M. Montesi
RJ Donovan. In 1994 Corona killed Mark Walker, a teenager who was kidnapped so that defendants could take his car and go to a birthday party.
CCWF. During the robbery in Corona in 2006, two daily wage laborers were killed along with two men.
Gilbert Bernard Sanchez
California Correctional Institute. Bakery worker Silvia Galindo was attacked, robbed and strangled in Fontana in 2001.
CCWF. Boyfriend Michael F. Thornton, murdered high school student Michelle Curran at Rubidox in 2001, leaving her body in a horse trailer.
James A Thompson
California State Prison Corcoran. In 1991, Ronald Gitmead, a developmentally disabled man, was killed at Canyon Lake.
Jack E. Williams
Sentinella State Prison. A Moreno Valley resident instructed gang members to shoot anyone who resisted their carjacking efforts, leading to the 1993 death of motorist Yvonne Loss, an Air Force nurse and mother of two.
