These are the new radars installed by the DGT in Spain

New speed cameras on Spanish roads. The DGT has announced that it will introduce devices to monitor the stops and through lines with cameras, which can be used to fine violators.

The stop radars consist of cameras that monitor whether the cars come to a complete stop. And although some drivers do not scrupulously respect this, before a stop sign, it is mandatory to completely stop the vehicle. Even if visibility is insufficient, a double stop is required.

Crossroads and incorporations are usually points of conflict for circulation. In order to avoid accidents, DGT decided to test a new concept of radar that monitors whether cars obey signs. The images captured by these devices can be used to punish drivers. Skipping a stop is punishable by a fine of up to 200 euros and the withdrawal of four card points.

In addition to checking the stops, the DGT also wants to focus on unauthorized lane changes. For this reason, there will also be very similar devices that monitor whether continuous lines are crossed. Side collisions are among the deadliest accidents in Spain, so it’s the company’s intention to set them on fire.

The idea is that these cameras will be installed in particularly conflict-ridden areas, not only to deter offenders but also to try to reduce accident rates. This violation is also punished with a fine of 200 euros and the withdrawal of 4 card points.

If the speed limit is less than 100 kilometers per hour, the radar jumps to 7 kilometers per hour above the permitted speed. That means if it’s a section limited to 60 kilometers per hour, the radar jumps to 67; if it’s 30, to 37; and so forth.

At a maximum speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour, 7% is added. This margin only applies to the 120 km/h limit. In these sections, the radar will reach a speed of 128 kilometers per hour.

It should be noted that the rule that allowed the speed limit for overtaking on conventional roads to be exceeded by 20 kilometers per hour has been abolished. For this reason, the margin that the radars apply will now be exclusively the delimitation of the road.
