They are not afraid of it: 70% of Chileans think that artificial intelligence will not replace their jobs.

A survey revealed that 6 out of 10 Chileans think that artificial intelligence will have a positive impact in the workplace. The main reason that justifies this answer is that 47% indicate that this technology will help the professional work. The trend is repeated in Latin America, reaching an average of 78% in favor of AI.

Contrary to what science fiction movies generally suggest, artificial intelligence (AI) is not a cause of concern for Chilean workers, according to a Laborum survey, which turned to the question “How do you think it will affect this technology at work?

The responses revealed that 61% of national talent believe that this technology will have a positive impact in the workplace, against 20% who think otherwise. Of course, 18% ensure that the impact will not be so pronounced.

When delving into the reasons that justify a positive opinion about artificial intelligence in the survey, 47% say they look favorably on AI in the workplace, because it will allow new knowledge to be incorporated that helps professionalize work.

“There is a prejudice when it is argued that people see the arrival of artificial intelligence in the world of work with suspicion,” explained Diego Tala, director of Laborum, regarding the survey conducted on more than 7,000 people in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador. , Panama and Peru.

“The truth is that people are confident that these systems will be tools to improve job development. In this sense, workers know that their work is not exclusive to technology. On the contrary, 77% declare that AI will be an ally of human talent”, he added.

However, it should be noted that people’s trust in technology is very high. In this sense, the survey reveals that 70% of respondents say they do not believe or fear that artificial intelligence can develop its own work in the future.

80% believe that it is necessary to incorporate new skills

Of course, 80% of the Chileans who responded to the study regarding artificial intelligence thought about incorporating new skills so as not to be left behind, with the constant technological changes in the world of work.

Although they are small groups, there are also fears. Of the group of 20% who believe that artificial intelligence will have a negative impact, 70% believe that this technology will replace humans.

Meanwhile, when asked what types of jobs AI could take over to replace humans in the future, 75% believe the areas most at risk are technology and systems.

What do workers in the region think?

The trend of not being afraid of artificial intelligence in other Latin American countries is similar to what is happening in Chile, as the survey shows.

In Argentina, for example, 79% of people say that the incorporation of artificial intelligence will have a positive impact on their work; in Panama, the figure increases to 80%; in Ecuador it rises to 84% and in Peru, trust reaches 85%, reaching a regional average of 78%.

Other figures from the region are also similar to those of Chile, where the majority believe that AI will be an ally in the workplace. In Peru the figure reaches 92%; in Ecuador 88%; while in Panama and Argentina, it is 85%.
