This is the average salary of soldiers in the United States

If you are planning to join the Armed Forces of the United States, in this note we will tell you how much the monthly payment is received and what benefits you have for belonging to one of the military institutions.

You should know that due to the lack of applicants—some institutions do not reach their annual quota—the emphasis is placed on the recruitment of legal immigrants, especially those looking for work, education, and training benefits, according to the Los Angeles Times. Belonging to an institution also opens the door to becoming a US citizen more quickly.

In addition, you should know that military salaries are quite competitive with most civilian careers. Due to a series of complementary subsidies for accommodation, food, insurance, and other expenses, you can keep more of your income. Find out the details.

The Armed Forces pay is different. Active-duty military personnel receive a base salary and allowances for room and board. And, depending on your role, you may be eligible for other types of compensation. Other factors are also influential, including your rate or range, service hours, and even the location of your destination. A soldier with one year of service is not the same as one with 10 or 19 years of military life, which must be added if they are married or have children.

According to the simulator on the Department of Defense’s Military Today page, pay is based on various factors, such as base pay, basic accommodation allowance (BAH), and basic subsistence allowance (BAS). Next, this is an estimate based on 10 years of service if you become a major or lieutenant colonel (Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force) or a lieutenant commander (Navy and Coast Guard).

  • No education, single: between US$68,884 and US$87,611
  • No education, married and/or with children: between US$71,188 and US$93,665
  • A university study: between US $104,444 and US133,794
  • University students who are married and/or have children: between US$106,849 and US$139,676.

NOTE: Basic pay is the same in all branches of the service, and increments depend on rank and seniority in the service.

  • Accommodation allowances abroad are paid in US dollars and are adjusted from time to time to reflect changes in local exchange rates.
  • The compensation calculator does not include special payments, such as foreign language pay, that some service members may receive under certain circumstances.
  • Special payments are given to some service members based on job specialty or performance of specific duties, such as hazardous duty.
  • Dental insurance with benefits in kind offers 100% coverage for active duty. The value of dental care service members is unlimited. Family members can be added for a small additional cost.
  • In-kind health insurance offers 100% coverage, and the amount received by members of the medical care service or their family members is unlimited.
  • Compensation for medical professionals is calculated based on several factors, including various special salaries and special incentive payments, which are usually given to medical officers. Talk to a recruiter about your specific case.
  • The Armed Forces contribute 6.2% of total compensation for FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes and make matching contributions, as do civilian employers.
