The golden ratio, a classical Greek mathematical measure, has been widely used throughout history to determine the beauty of a person or thing. In recent times, they have been widely used in scientific projects, architecture, design, photography and other disciplines. Now a group of scientists has served to determine the most beautiful cities in the world. An Online Mortgage study advisor ruled that Chester is a city in the northern part of the Kingdom of Great Britain founded by the Romans in the first century. London, this city of about 12,000 inhabitants, is a town with many treasures to discover and admire in the historic center.
The scholars chose Chester as the most beautiful city in the world because it is the one whose highest percentage of buildings (83.7%) conforms to the golden ratio, which is 1:1618, and which is recognized as the paradigm of beauty.
The study was done by reviewing frontal images of more than 2,400 buildings in historic cities around the world. After considering the points at the corners of each building to calculate “the ratio of their longest and shortest lengths,” the experts compared those ratios to the golden ratio to see if they match.
Chester’s Roman origins are present in the city and evidence of this fact is found in its walls or amphitheater.
But it also preserves traces of the great Middle Ages, such as its half-timbered houses, a medieval arcade (a type of the town’s currency culture), a fantastically preserved 11th-century castle and a Gothic-style cathedral.
One of the most visited places in this city of 120,000 inhabitants is the curious Eastgate Clock, one of the most photographed clocks in the world, which crowns the arched gate in the walls of Chester.
This was the first entrance to Deva Victricis, a Roman fortification from the first century BC, the origin of the city. Eastgate is in the center of Chester, a short walk from the cathedral and the River Dee.
These are the 20 most beautiful cities in the world, according to science (and the golden rule).
