The study was done by reviewing frontal images of more than 2,400 buildings in historic cities around the world. After considering the points at the corners of each building to calculate “the ratio of their longest and shortest lengths,” the experts compared those ratios to the golden ratio to see if they match.

This was the first entrance to Deva Victricis, a Roman fortification from the first century BC, the origin of the city. Eastgate is in the center of Chester, a short walk from the cathedral and the River Dee.
