With the 2023–2024 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) just around the corner, the eight teams are fixing the details to start the championship in the best way. Tigres de Aragua is one of the teams looking to improve in the next match.
In the morning session on Thursday, October 12, the Bengals announced two new additions to their practices. These are José “Cafecito” Martínez and JJ D’Orazio. They arrived on the day that Aragua will face Leones in the first preseason game at the José Pérez Colmenares stadium in Maracay.
The experienced Martínez just played his second season with Leones de Yucatán, a team that resides in the Mexican Baseball League. He did not get the desired title, but he ended his actions in the best way.
In 88 games, “Cafecito” Martínez had 102 hits, including 15 home runs and 18 doubles. In addition, he drove in 70 runs, scored 52, and left a.316 average, numbers that explain his productivity on the aforementioned team.
This is José’s 14th crop on the national circuit, 13 of them with Tiburones de La Guaira, and the latest means his debut with the Bengali outfit.
For his part, D’Orazio landed in cat territory after seeing action in the Minor Leagues of American baseball. He was a catcher, part of the Arizona Rattlesnakes organization, and left good offensive records in the strong Class A and Double A.
He had 110 hits, 9 home runs, 50 RBIs, 53 runs scored, 35 walks, and 89 strikeouts in 398 at-bats. His AVG resulted in a solid.276 with a.755 OPS.
