A coroner in Wyoming’s Teton County said on Tuesday that Gabby Petito was killed by suffocation and died three to four weeks before her body was found near an undeveloped campground.
Thus, the date of her death will be in the range from 22 to 29 August.
The coroner had previously declared her death a murder.
Petito, 22, disappeared a few weeks after traveling with her boyfriend, Brian Landry, 23. They were a couple for two years and lived with his parents in North Port, Florida, south of Tampa.
He returned to Florida without her and has not been seen for nearly a month. Before disappearing, he refused to speak to the police about Petito’s whereabouts.
Some other dates that have been confirmed regarding the couple’s travels:
2 july: Petito and Landry leave New York on a four-month trip through national parks in Petito’s van. Over the next few weeks, she frequently posts photos and videos on social media. By July 8, they were in Colorado, and a week later in Utah.
12th of August: Petito and Laundry are stopped by police in Arches National Park after a man reported seeing a man hit a woman outside a shop in nearby Moab, Utah. The couple admit they are having an argument and the police are helping Landry find accommodation so they can spend the evening separately.
August 17: The laundry flies home to Florida, while Petito stays in Salt Lake City. He reportedly said he wanted to get some supplies and close the warehouse because the couple were thinking about extending the trip.
August 23: The laundry flies back to Utah.
24 August: Laundry and Petito are checked out of the hotel in Salt Lake City.
25-th of August: Petito’s last voice communication with his family in New York. She says she is in Grand Teton National Park. She also tells a friend on Snapchat that she is heading to Yellowstone.
25-th of August: Petito posts her latest photo from Ogden, Utah to her Instagram account.
August 27: Petito’s last confirmed sighting in an early afternoon at a restaurant in Jackson, Wyoming. The woman, who said she saw the couple there, reported that Landry apparently got into a confrontation with the restaurant employee, that he was “angry” and Petito was “upset” and cried as they left.
August 27: A couple driving around 6:00 pm at Spread Creek Camping in Bridger Teton National Forest – 30 miles from Jackson – records a video of Petito’s van parked along a gravel road. The couple, who are from Florida, said they took notice because there were Florida numbers. They said they hadn’t seen anyone in the van.
August 27: Petito’s mother receives a text message from a young woman’s phone, but she said she found it strange and not sure if it was from her daughter.
August 30: Petito’s mother receives another text message from her phone, which says only, “There is no service in Yosemite.”
September 1: Laundry arrives at their parents’ home in North Port, Florida, arriving home in a van. Petito is not with him. Jackson is about 2,500 miles from North Port.
11 September: Petito’s parents report her missing.
14 september: The parents of the laundry originally said they last saw him that day when he was leaving their house. According to them, he had a backpack and was going to go hiking. They later changed their account and said they last saw him on September 13th.
September 15th: Laundry’s parents reportedly found his Ford Mustang in a natural area called Carlton Reserve, about 20 minutes from their home.
September 17: The parents of the laundry room call the police and report him missing.
September 19: Petito’s body found at Spread Creek Camping in Bridger Teton National Forest in Wyoming.
