Austin, Texas ( Associated Press) — Manning’s last quarterback and the nation’s top rookie in next year’s class verbally promised the prospective SEC school: Arch Manning tweeted on Thursday that he plans to play in Texas.
The quarterback’s post included a photo of him coming back for a pass in a Longhorns jersey.
Manning spends his senior season at Isidore Newman Preparatory School in New Orleans, where his uncles Peyton and Eli, his Super Bowl MVP, also played. Ark Manning’s father, Cooper, is the older brother of Peyton and Eli.
Peyton Manning played his college ball in Tennessee. Eli Manning followed his father and Arch’s grandfather, Archie, in a game of Ole Miss.
Texas is currently in the Big 12 but will move into the Southeast Conference by the 2025 season, and maybe sooner.
The Longhorns, who were 5-7 last year, will enter Coach Steve Sarkisian’s second season, with Hudson Card and Quinn Evers competing for the starting quarterback spot.
Card was a starter at the start of last season before being replaced after just two games by Casey Thompson, who has since moved to Nebraska.
Ewers is a five-star former high school recruit from Dallas. He hardly played for one season at Ohio State before returning home and joining the Longhorns for spring training. He was the top quarterback rookie in the class of 2021, although he missed his senior year in high school.
