Torres defines 1st duel for Yankees; then Miller for Texas

NEW YORK ( Associated Press) — Rookie Brad Miller snapped Michael King’s impressive scoreless streak with a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers cruised to a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday. York and split honors in a doubleheader.

The Yankees took the first meeting 2-1 when Gleyber Torres hit the decisive home run leading off the ninth inning.

King (2-1) had thrown 14 1/3 straight scoreless innings before Miller hit a 1-0 fastball to center field for a two-run lead. The Yankees right-hander hadn’t allowed a run since Toronto’s George Springer’s RBI double on April 11.

King relieved Jordan Montgomery after Jonah Heim led off the inning with a double to left field. King walked Kole Calhoun, walked Nathaniel Lowe and retired Andy Ibanez on a force out that allowed Heim to advance to third. Heim scored on a wild pitch one pitch before Miller’s home run.

Torres also had a game-ending single on April 23 against Cleveland and now has seven career game-winning hits, including two home runs.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning after Rangers starter Dane Dunning missed his no-hit attempt by giving up an infield single from Aaron Judge to lead off the inning.

Yankees starter Gerrit Cole gave up one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out 10, walked one and threw a season-high 114 pitches, hitting 100.6 mph on the radar.
