Anyone who thought that the south-southeast of Mexico was the favored area of the Fourth Amendment during this six-year period was correct. The main projects of the 4T are developed in that part of our country; beyond the Dos Bocas Refinery, the Mayan Train, and the Interoceanic Corridor-Isthmus of Tehuantepec, there is also the Tulum Airport, the construction of the Cruise Ship Dock in Cozumel, the maintenance, rehabilitation, and operation of the southeastern highways in Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, and Chiapas, the Nichupté vehicular bridge in Quintana Roo, the southern highway bypass in Oaxaca, and the expansion and modernization of Puerto Progreso.
For all this, do not be surprised that the Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit, Gabriel Yorio, led a meeting in Oaxaca as part of an unprecedented initiative of the SHCP, which seeks to engage with the forces of the Ministries of Economy in Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas, Yucatán, and Campeche to strengthen the development of the Mexican south-south. In this meeting, many raised their hands, where the participation of the governors stood and the representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) were present, as well as the secretaries and general directors of Chiapas, Veracruz, and Campeche.
What is believed is that Mexico grew between 3 and 4 percent according to their numbers, and they claim that it will continue to grow in that range next year, but they emphasize that the southern states have grown double the amount of infrastructure investment injections. The federal government has prioritized investment and development in the south-south after decades of neglect, they said, which is why, according to them, everything is reflected in the recent Quarterly Indicator of Regional Economic Activity. In the second quarter of this year, the southern region experienced a growth of 6 percent compared to last year, thus placing itself as the region with the highest growth in the country.
Now we want more entrepreneurs to turn to that part of Mexico, but without stopping to look at other parts, so that the investment is fair and distributed throughout the territory, taking advantage of the competitive advantages of the south. So if you want to be part of this strategy, there are tax incentives that may interest you in investing in Isthmus, combined with sources of financing and a strategy that allows you to participate in strategic sectors. Since 2019, the IDB has supported federal entities with 31 technical cooperation projects, investing nearly 7 million dollars in areas such as environment, health, education, security, and governance. Of these cooperations, Oaxaca and Chiapas received 20 percent, with an investment of 1.3 million dollars. The commitment of the Ministry of Finance is to continue cooperation with the states of the south-south and multilateral institutions to guarantee fair and equitable development, with a special focus on the needs of this region and benefits for the whole country.
All is peace and tranquility in the Caterpillar company in Nuevo Laredo, but after the votes in which the National Independent Union of Industrial and Service Workers “Movement 20/32” (SNITIS) was elected to represent them to negotiate a new collective contract, there was a violation of labor rights. This led to the explosion of the strike at the Tamaulipas plant, in addition to the formalization of a labor complaint under the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism before the United States Government. It is expected that today the response of the Mexican authorities to solve this matter will worsen because it is said that an employee was fired because of his actions defending freedom of association. This case needs to be followed up on immediately.
