According to official sources, technical teams of the Suez Canal have re-floated an oil tanker, which had stalled traffic for several hours on this vital sea route, so that “transit becomes normal”.
“Navigation is already regular in both directions,” Canal Management Authority chairman Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie said in a statement.

It also notes that “efforts to rapidly intervene (to resolve the problem) of the mechanical failure in the tanker have been successful”, and that the Maltese-flagged Sivigor “was moved by tugboats” for repairs.
Malfunctioning machines of the Svigor, which was part of the Northern Convoy and had come from Russia to China, had blocked many merchant ships in the vital sea route.

This was the fifth such incident since the beginning of the year, and came some ten days after the Hong Kong-flagged container ship Shin Hai Tong 23 ran aground, causing traffic to stop for several hours in the Hong Kong Channel Suez. However, none has been as serious as the one with Even Given in 2021, for which the Canal Management Authority sought $850 million in compensation.
