Tragic Phish SF Show Requires Chase Center Security Check

The Chase Center will be inspected by San Francisco authorities for safety reasons following the death of one fan and injuries to two others at the Phish concert in San Francisco on October 17th.

The case was filed on October 18 after a complaint was filed with the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection that the site’s railings were “unsafe” and “not high enough” and the stairs leading to the railings were “steep.”

The Phish concert was overshadowed by two separate falls. In the first case, a 47-year-old viewer from Athens, New York, died after falling from an upper level, although San Francisco police said he may have jumped rather than accidentally fell or was pushed.

“The investigation has evidence that the victim jumped from a dais in the arena, causing him to fall a considerable distance, which led to his injuries,” the San Francisco police department said in a statement. “Immediately prior to the jump, the victim did not appear to have physical contact with anyone or the barrier / fence.”
