Trump aimed to ‘speed up violence against’ Mother Pence, says spokeswoman Zoe Lofgren

Lawyer Zoe Lofgren (D-California) accused Donald Trump on Sunday of deliberately trying to “accelerate the violence” that was already raging at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 against his vice president Mike Pence, in a reckless attempt to keep his strength.

Lofgren, a member of the elected committee of the House of Representatives that is investigating the rebellion, pointed to a tweet sent by the former president attacking Pence, even while Trump’s supporters violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Former White House associates testified at last week’s hearing in the House committee that Trump was invited to send a message to help fight violence. But he instead tweeted amid the riots, saying Pence “did not have the courage to do what needed to be done” – referring to Pence’s refusal to reject the electoral votes that confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.

A video of the scene at the Capitol after Trump’s tweet shows a rioter who then announced that Pence had “betrayed” us, infuriating the masses. Supporters soon chanted, “Hang Mother Pence!”

“When he sent a tweet attacking his vice president, he already knew the violence was ongoing,” Lofgren said on CBS’s Face the Nation show. “The only conclusion you can come to is that he intended to accelerate that violence against the former vice president.”

The nephew of the former president, Mary Trump, accused her uncle in an interview last week that he essentially “sentenced Pence to death” and suggested that Pence’s murder could have helped Trump seek justification for declaring a state of emergency.

Also, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry Litman accused Trump on Saturday at the MSNBC of “causing murderous rage” among his supporters as part of “rigging” against Pence.

Lofgren also accused Trump of inciting horrific lawlessness, a violent culture in America today. She pointed to “very conservative” MP Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) when extremist Republicans shouted and “disgusted” him on Saturday at the Republican Party Convention in Texas in Houston.

“I think that’s what the former president started here,” she added.
