Trump urges former aide Navarro to protect executive privileges during Democrats’ COVID-19 investigation

Former President Donald Trump told former White House adviser Peter Navarro to “defend executive privileges” in response to a subpoena from House Democrats investigating the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.

“The Communist Democrats are engaging in yet another witch hunt, this time after my administration’s unprecedented and incredible reaction to the coronavirus, despite the fact that, unfortunately, more Americans have died from Covid this year than in all of 2020,” Trump said in a statement. statement.

“I tell Peter Navarro to defend executive privileges and not let these frustrated Democrats discredit our great accomplishments. The witch hunt must end! “

The Epoch Times contacted Navarro for comment.

The House of Representatives’ Democratic-led subcommittee on the coronavirus crisis sent Navarro a subpoena (pdf) on November 18 requesting “all documents and communications you have regarding your involvement in the federal government’s response to the coronavirus.”

Navarro was Trump’s director of trade and industrial policy. As part of the Trump administration’s response to the CCP virus pandemic, he has taken on the role of policy coordinator for the Defense Manufacturing Act. Trump cited the Defense Manufacturing Act to force some manufacturers to produce ventilators. These efforts have successfully met the needs of US hospitals and generated a surplus sufficient to provide ventilators to other countries.

The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, is the pathogen that causes COVID-19.

In a note to members of the COVID-19 Subcommittee, Rep. James Cliburn (DS.C.) accuses Trump and Navarro of delegating critical materials procurement to states rather than implementing a centralized federal procurement system. Cliburn said the strategy resulted in “an acute shortage of critical materials.”

“Mr. Navarro has refused to voluntarily comply with the Select Subcommittee’s demands, ignoring repeated attempts to obtain his consent and otherwise being unable to contact Select Subcommittee staff,” Clyburn wrote. subcommittee and its constant refusal to cooperate voluntarily, this subpoena is necessary. “

Navarro responded to the subpoena by tweeting that he plans to send copies of his recently released book During Trump: My Diary of the Year of the Plague in America to the subcommittee.

“This is another common and shallow witch hunt from the Democrats,” Navarro said. “Trump Time documents my critical role in fighting the deadly pandemic from communist China, and shows the committee (as usual) barking up the wrong tree.”

“Suggest they ask Tony Fauci when he knew his dangerous experiments to increase functionality were likely technology the Chinese were using to spawn a deadly virus that President Trump and I had to fight,” Navarro added.
