MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said former President Donald Trump’s so-called Team Normal was either completely confused or unsure of what his boss was doing to his Team Crazy during the January 6 uprising. He either had to be completely confused to know.
The prime-time anchor called White House insiders who were not involved in the plot to reverse Trump’s election defeat outraged, saying his “bizarrely intentional blindness to the apparent truth” was outraged.
Trump’s “Team Normal” members told the House “Crazy” team of investigators on January 6, who advised Trump to overturn election results, if necessary, to stay in power. But testimony showed that the “Team Normal” crew did little to stop the “madness”, which included Rudy Giuliani, lawyer Sidney Powell and extremist retired Army General Michael Flynn.
Hayes said on “All In” Wednesday night that it’s a “good thing” that White House staff, including Trump’s White House counsel Pat Cipollone, opposed Trump’s “coup attempt.” But their resistance fell short, he said.
Hayes mocked Cipollone’s January 6 complaints from panel members that Trump’s staunch adviser was not “supporting” his baseless claims of facts being rigged.
That’s when Hayes said he “almost threw something at the TV.”
“Pat, dude, bro, my man. Do you know who you worked for? … Donald Trump … the most pathological liar I’ve ever seen in 20 years of journalism,” Hayes testified to Cipollone Said after playing a clip.
Trump “wanted to overturn American democracy and declare himself essentially president for life,” Hayes said, directing his remarks to Cipollone. “If you don’t realize this, you’re either stupid, inexplicably naive, or so incompetent that you should never have another job. Oh my gosh!”
Hayes said Trump had been indicating his coup plans in broad daylight for months.
So there’s Cipollone saying, “Wow, how did I get here?” Made fun of Hayes. He said it was clear to “anyone with a brain cell” what was about to happen.
Hayes called it “so deeply indignant” that professionals, the “adults in the room” at the White House, were “so upset, and astonished, and confused, and surprised the way it turned out.” “The president was trying to do something illegal with these weirdos,” Hayes said. “Of course he was!”
“It’s a good thing they realized it at the very end,” Hayes said. “But it’s a bad thing it took them so long.”
