After being announced at E3 2018, TUNIC was finally released on March 16, 2022. Phinji’s indie game features an anthropomorphic fox on a journey to collect the unknown, open secrets and treasures.
At first glance, the game may seem simple. But falling for its cute looks would be a sin as the game features hardcore combat and precise timing of movement, similar to the recently released Elden Ring. As salt of the wound, the game also includes indecent language from the game world, making the game even more challenging to understand.
In such circumstances, the tips presented below will help the players during the initial phase of the game.
TUNIC. Beginner Game Tips for Beginners in the Game
Tunic is a brutal, soul-y, expansive exploration game full of action and adventure. Its isometric form has the ability to hide a ton of objects and secrets out of sight.
While reviewing the game, there were a few obstacles in the way of the quest, one of which is the language barrier. Due to this, the instructions provided were scant, and things needed to be figured out manually.
Here are some early game tips for players who have just started or are about to start their journey into the world of the unknown:
1) Use Extended Isometric View
The game, which has an isometric view, can easily deceive players by missing out on certain treasures and secret paths that often hide behind regular objects. As a result, players are advised to check every corner in a particular area.
This extra effort will be well rewarded, resulting in zero dissatisfaction. These rewards often help in gaining a better understanding of the game world, ultimately helping the story progress.
2) Level up in temples with fox statues
In case it’s not obvious at the start of the game, the tunic has a leveling-up system. Stats such as attack, defense, magic, stamina and health can be leveled up in fox-shaped temples. This can be done by using different and distinctive items collected as you progress along with the story at the cost of some golden material.
These gold materials act as currency and can be obtained quickly by defeating certain enemies. Fox-shaped temples also serve as game save spots and allow players to replenish their health and stamina. However, it should be remembered that once health is replenished, enemies will respawn, pointing directly at Dark Souls.
3) Do not rush to join the war. Instead, read enemies’ moves and react accordingly
Like the Elden Rings, the tunic’s enemies also have a distinctive movement pattern. Although the latter isn’t quite as hardcore as the first, the boss fights manage to deliver some serious headaches. In such situations, players are advised not to rush into their enemies while spamming their keyboard or gamepad.
Instead, they must read the movements of enemies and react accordingly. Sometimes, a simple block stuns a particular enemy, resulting in an easy takedown.
4) Knock down enemies one by one
There will be many occasions in the game when enemies appear in a group or gang to form a formidable force. More than one enemy is gathering on TUNIC’s hero, which some players may find intimidating.
Therefore, it is suggested to lure the enemies and take them down separately. This will create less commotion and frustration but comes at the cost of more time consumption. Taking down enemies individually would require less use of secondary weapons such as firecrackers and firebombs, resulting in sword mastery.
5) Prioritize smart work over hard work
It may seem that a certain enemy is difficult to defeat using the melee weapons provided. For a variety of reasons, such as ranged damage and excessive melee damage, players feel that their enemies are invincible, which is often not the case.
In such situations players are advised to study the environment and take down their enemies cleverly. Often, it can be seen that some enemies are at a lower altitude than the fox.
Explosives come in handy at such times. Players can press the LT button on their gamepad, lock on a particular enemy or group of enemies such as spiders, and continue bombing until they are eliminated.
While these are just a few of the suggestions mentioned, many more will be mentioned in more guides in the coming days.
On March 16, 2022, TUNIC was released worldwide for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and macOS. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
