Turkish Airlines strengthened its presence in the United States with the launch of direct flights between Istanbul and Detroit. This new link represents the thirteenth fortune of the airline in the United States and began operations on November 15, 2023.
Flights happen three times a week on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, and an increase to four weekly frequencies is expected in December 2023. The inaugural flight to Detroit, a city known for its strong automotive industry, was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute. Dignitaries of Turkish Airlines and local authorities attended this event at Wayne County Metropolitan Airport, which is an airport in the United States.
Turkish Airlines therefore joins Lufthansa and Royal Air Maroc as the third non-SkyTeam member airline to offer long-haul flights from this airport. Detroit is also a key hub for Delta Air Lines and has a presence for Air France.
Known as the “Motor City” and center of the auto industry, Detroit boasts a rich musical and cultural heritage, making it an attractive destination for business and tourism.
