It’s been a while since the word “humid” was used in the Twin Cities weather forecast, but it’s likely next week.
“Strong signs of a very hot and humid next week are continuing,” the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service said. reported in a tweet on Thursday. “Temperatures will rise into the 70s and 80s, but some 90s are also possible if conditions are right. Next week the record high is in the low 80s to low 90s and it could be in danger.
It is much warmer than normal May temperatures in the upper 60s.
So far, it has been a cold and wet spring. While there is a chance of rain on Sunday – Mother’s Day – temperatures are expected to be in the 60s and 70s this weekend. After that, though, you’ll need to find your shorts and sandals.
“From Monday, we will be well above normal, with more heat-like patterns setting in,” NWS meteorologist Michelle Margaff said in an interview Thursday.
The chance of a sporadic storm is highest on Monday as well; Some could be serious.
Snow seems to be behind us, at least. For the 2021-22 season, NWS Report Its climate site in Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport received 50.2 inches of snow, an inch below normal.
In April, the National Weather Service reports that it was cold and wet, with all of its climate sites experiencing below normal temperatures and above normal rainfall. Average temperatures in the Twin Cities were about 6 degrees above normal, with an average high of 41 degrees.
It was only the 51st coldest April in the record books, however, according to the National Weather Service (we now have an urban heat island to “warm” us up compared to our ancestors). More recently, chilly April 2014 (remember Blizzard on April 14th?)
