Twins win over Rockies because of top order

It wasn’t as easy as ABC for the Twins — the talented top of the lineup got some help — but the efforts of the Minnesota three stars went a long way on Sunday.

Luis Erez, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa helped boost the offensive effort in the Twins’ 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies at Target Field on Sunday afternoon. The trio ended the day for 6 for 10, scoring five runs and scoring two runs. Buxton, who scored three hits and three runs in them, ended the day just shy of a home cycle.

While serving as the team’s designated hitter, Buxton reached base in all four of his plate appearances. Buxton walked and scored as part of his first innings of three runs. Four straight singles from Correa, Max Kepler, Alex Kiriloff and Gio Ursella followed his run as the Twins gave the opening cushion to starter Joe Ryan.

In the second inning, Buxton’s second triple – before Saturday, he hadn’t tripled since 2019 – brought Arrez home, which ended with a pair of hits. Buxton would later score on Korea’s sacrificial fly. He would score again in the seventh inning at the Kepler double.

Six runs came on a day when Ryan was not at his fastest, but he struggled in five innings. The Rockies had baserunners in each of their opening innings, but they managed to limit the damage, dropping a run each in the first, third and fourth.

Caleb Thielbar chases down, loading the base without an outsider to begin his outing. For the second time this week, the twins pulled out of a base-loaded, no outside position, with Thielbar and Emilio Pagan combining to do so. Tyler Duffy and Joan Duran played a goalless innings each to secure the win.
