Two arrested for chasing Chico

CHICO – After a car chase from Park Avenue to Durham, officers from the Chico Police Department arrested two individuals and recovered a stolen vehicle.

A press release issued by the department on Wednesday said the incident began on November 10 when officers tried to stop a vehicle driven by Rosa Valdez, 42, of Chico, who allegedly had a felony charge leading to her arrest. There was a warrant. The driver sped away and was chased for about a mile before the police backed out.

Five days later on November 15, a resident reported the theft of his Ford Escort and claimed that Valdez had stolen it, the release said. On Monday, a theft was reported and the caller said he believed the Ford Escort used in the said theft may have been a theft report. Officials could not locate the driver or the vehicle on the spot.

The latest car chase began around 4:55 a.m. Wednesday when officers discovered a stolen Ford in Chico and tried to stop it on Park Avenue. A chase ensued and the vehicle took police to a dead-end road in Durham where the driver and a passenger surrendered, the release said.

Valdez was identified as the driver and arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and two counts of reckless theft, along with a felony warrant.

The passenger aboard the Ford Escort was identified as Vincent Kelly, 25, of Chico’s and was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and heroin. Kelly has two criminal warrants for his arrest, the release said.

Valdez and Kelly are taken to Butte County Jail.
