Two Hospitalized After Caroline Street Attack in Saratoga Springs

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Four people, including two hospitalized, were injured after attacks on Caroline Street over the weekend, the latest in a series of violent incidents along the popular corridor in recent months.

According to a news release, the first incident occurred around 3:28 a.m. on October 30, when police responded to a major street fight near Carolyn and Henry Streets.

The brawl was over before officers arrived, but police discovered a pair of victims who had been injured during the scuffle.

A 22-year-old male, who police did not identify, suffered “blunt force injuries to his head” as a result of the fight, while a 35-year-old male had “slight stabbing wounds” to the abdomen. Of the Police.

The 22-year-old was taken to Albany Medical Center. The 35-year-old was treated on the spot and released.

According to the release, on October 31, officers responded to an incident at Gaffney at the intersection of Carolyn and Putnam Streets at approximately 1:52 p.m. “which was addressed by staff.”

Two victims of that brawl needed medical attention as a result of the incident, including a 35-year-old male who sustained stab wounds to the torso. He was taken to Albany Medical Center.

According to police, a 26-year-old male suffered injuries on his hand and was treated on the spot.

None of the injuries sustained during the attacks are believed to be life-threatening, according to police, who said the cooperation of those involved has been “minimal”.

Police did not immediately return a message seeking additional information on the incidents.

The attacks are the latest in a series of violent incidents that have occurred along Caroline Street in recent months, resulting in increased police presence and city officials calling for bars to close early in the hope of preventing additional violence.

In August, two brothers were arrested and charged with first-degree murder after an alleged assault outside a city inn. The victim, 56-year-old Mark French, suffered a head injury, which later led to his death.

Four people were arrested in October for their alleged role in an attack and robbery at a parking lot adjacent to Caroline Street.

In June, 15 to 20 fighting broke out in the corridor, resulting in a 26-year-old male being stabbed and several shots fired. In August too, there were several stabbings on the road.

In August, the city council approved a proposal that asked The County Board of Supervisors requested the state liquor authority to restrict the sale of alcohol in the county until 2 a.m. instead of 4 a.m.

The change would have to be approved by the state and could take months.
