Jesús González, main member of the Regional Primary Board of La Guaira, and Julio Gutiérrez, substitute member, resigned this Tuesday from their positions in the Regional Primary Board of La Guaira, considering that “the election conditions and guarantees not given”.
“We continue to believe that our beloved Venezuela needs the will of all good Venezuelans to lead the country towards social change, economic freedom, full democratic rights and freedom of expression, ” they stated in a document published on social networks.
They emphasized that when they made the commitment they did it “assuming that it is an inclusive process with the participation of all Civil Society that seeks to change for the country.”
“After many days of work, meetings, planning and delivery to fulfill this commitment to the citizens. Now we find ourselves in the need to express to the country and the world, about (this) electoral process in democratic unity planned for this December 22 of October 2023, that this electoral process that is proposed is not inclusive and does not allow the large participation of the citizens of Venezuela,” they added.
In this way, they warned that “there are many people who are unable to exercise the right to vote” and pointed out that “the electoral conditions and guarantees are not provided for this process, because there are no clear agreement for the operation of centers and polling stations”.
“The proposed election points do not have sanitary and safety conditions (they are outside), and if there is rain during the day of the main election process it will be greatly affected and affect the participation of citizens.”
They detailed that, of the 49 electoral points proposed in La Guaira, only two have roofs and protection from the sun or rain.
In addition, they reported that there are still “logistical and technical needs” to guarantee the “good development of the process.”
On the other hand, they clarified that none of them “managed any resources for the development of the role entrusted to us as members of the Regional Primary Board.”
“Due to the above reasons, we announce to the nation our formal and irrevocable resignation from the position of primary and alternate member of the Regional Electoral Board of the state of La Guaira, knowing the level of risk that it will fail internal election process and the political damage that may occur. cause the country’s democratic unity,” they concluded.
