Two shot outside West St. Paul gas station on Sunday night

Police were called in from nearby towns to help with crowd control as West St. Paul officers investigate the shooting of a man and woman outside the Mendota Road gas station on Sunday night.

Investigators and doctors were called on Sunday night at 8:48 pm at the Marathon gas station at 433 E. Mendota Road. According to a police statement, when officers arrived, they found a woman with bullet injuries in the lower part of her body and a man with multiple bullets.

Both were taken to St. Paul’s Region Hospital. The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. The man had surgery; His current status is unknown. Police did not reveal the names of the injured.

Police believe the attacker targeted the man and the woman. Officials said no arrests had been made.

While officers were trying to secure the area and provide medical aid to the man and woman, a large group of onlookers gathered, interrupting investigators and refusing to leave the scene. At one point members of the group tried to take control of a vehicle, one of which was captured by the injured, the statement said.

Officers in the surrounding communities of South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota Heights, Egan, Washington County, Cottage Grove, Woodbury, State Patrol and St. Paul Police Departments responded to help with crowd control.
