The attack in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania comes amid high-profile gun violence incidents.
Two teenagers have been killed and at least nine injured in a mass shooting at a party in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the latest in a string of high-profile gun violence incidents in the United States.
Officials said 90 shots were fired at the party, where many of the guests were minors, after an apparent brawl on Sunday morning, according to police. The shell casing indicated that a handgun and a rifle were used in the shooting, possibly involving crossfire.
Two 17-year-old men later died in hospital. No arrests were made and the motive was unclear.
“It is heart-wrenching; Here we are over Easter and we have several families, two who will not see a loved one,” said Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert. “Others that are going to happen – how can you even take leave when your child was involved in such a traumatic event?”
The incident came as attention was again drawn to the high rate of gun violence in the US after the high profile mass shootings.
At least nine people were injured in a shooting at a South Carolina nightclub early Sunday, while a gunman opened fire during an apparent brawl at a busy mall in the Colombian capital, South Carolina, injuring nine others on Friday .
Last week, a gunman opened fire on a New York subway car, injuring 10 people. Suspect Frank James was later arrested the next day and charged with a federal crime of committing a terroristic or violent attack against mass transportation.
Earlier, in early April, in Sacramento, California, six people were killed and 12 others were injured during a gunfight between rival gangs as bars closed in a busy central area just off the state capitol.
