UCLA establishes Barbra Streisand Institute

LOS ANGELES – Barbra Streisand is setting up an institute at the University of California, Los Angeles to conduct research on a range of social issues, from climate change to environmental health and gender relations and how to combat misinformation at the national level.

The Barbra Streisand Institute will be located in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles and will consist of four centers that will focus on specific issues.

They are:

Center of Truth in the Public Sphere

Climate Change Impact Center

Center for the dynamics of intimacy and power between a man and a woman

“Building on her decades of experience as an artist and activist, Barbra Streisand’s visionary act of generosity will enable UCLA scientists from a wide range of disciplines to collaborate on research that will move society forward,” said UC Chancellor Jean Block.

Streisand is an accomplished and renowned artist, actor, director, producer, screenwriter, songwriter and songwriter. She is the first woman to direct, produce, write and star in a major motion picture, the first female composer to win an Academy Award, the only recording artist to reach # 1 albums in six consecutive decades, and the first woman to receive an award. “I am delighted to be able to fund an institute at UCLA, one of the leading universities in the world,” Streisand said in her post. “It will be a place where future scholars can discuss, participate and argue on the most important issues of the day; where innovators will tell the truth to power, help save our planet and make glass ceilings for women an anachronism; and in the process give us the chance to have a brighter and more promising future. “
