Uddhav Thackeray was keen on an alliance with BJP, Rahul Shewale claimed – discussed during meeting with PM Modi

In Lok Sabha on behalf of the group led by Eknath Shinde Rahul Shivale appointed as the leader of Shiv Sena claimed on Tuesday that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray himself was keen to strike a deal with the BJP soon after the MVA government was formed in Maharashtra.

Talking to media persons in New Delhi, he claimed that a compromise could not be reached due to the opposing stand taken by some Shiv Sena members against the laxity of the BJP and Thackeray. “Uddhav Thackeray had told us during his interaction with Shiv Sena MPs that he was keen on an alliance with the BJP,” he said. He said that when he had gone to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021, he had discussed the issue of alliance with him.

Even the suspension of 12 BJP MLAs could not decide
“The meeting was held last June and there was an assembly session in July. 12 BJP MLAs were suspended during the session. Senior BJP leaders then got angry as they felt that ‘on one hand we are talking of alliance, but on the other they are suspending our MLAs’. On July 5, 12 BJP MLAs were suspended from the House for a year for misbehaving with “back seat speaker” Bhaskar Jadhav. Said that BJP leaders were also upset as their discussions with Thackeray did not yield any result.

Shivale said, “At times, Uddhav Thackeray discussed the alliance (with BJP leaders). But BJP did not get any positive response from Shiv Sena. This angered the BJP leaders too… Uddhav Thackeray himself told us all these things. He told us that ‘I have tried my best, now you also try.’

“We MPs held four to five meetings with Thackeray and insisted that the party should forge an alliance with the BJP. Though every time Thackeray used to tell us that he is ready but he is not getting good response (from BJP).”

Sanjay Raut was also held responsible
Shivale also blamed Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut for the tension between the BJP and Shiv Sena. While efforts were being made for an alliance, on the other, Raut was holding meetings with MVA leaders and supporting UPA’s vice-president and presidential candidates. When contacted, Sanjay Raut said that Shivale’s claims are false. “Uddhavji shares everything with us and I don’t know where it came from,” he said.
