The Puerto Rican Disease (FPF) disaffiliated by * Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (Copur)after the sports entity’s plenary recommendation to the Executive Committee for that reason in a meeting held on Monday at the San Juan Olympic House.

Similarly, the president delegate of the FPF, Iván Rivera, was suspended, as was the alternate delegate, Juan Avilés.

The vote in favor of disaffiliation at the Copur meeting was unanimous.

Meanwhile, the High Performance Team (DAR) will continue to work with women’s volleyball, which has achieved a historic classification in its own right at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.

The DAR, as announced in the meeting, will determine if the National Team meets the sports parameters to participate – and qualify – in the Salvation Games before making a final decision on their participation. With the disaffiliation, the FPF will have no influence in its preparation for the Selection Games, in which the competing Copur teams and athletes participate.

The president of Copur, Sara Rosario, said that for the team’s sports information, they can be selected to show that they are in fourth place in the region or close to fourth place. It means the same judgment that has been used with other teams in previous years.

The question is whether the Confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean is better known than the concacafto oppose the participation of the senior team in the Central Americans, Rosario stated that this was the decision of that entity.

“This is the plan of Concacaf. What Concacaf is going to do from now on, what the federation is going to do from now on is up to everyone. We can talk about what we’ve been talking about as an Executive Committee. This is the disaffiliation that begins today. A thousand things can come up, but at this moment I don’t go into speculation about all the things that can come up,” said Rosario, who affirmed that he would immediately work with the team that punched his ticket. San Salvador, when it comes to the Pan American Games or the Puerto Rico Olympics, is more inclined .

In the event that the FPF wants to appeal Copur’s determination, Rosario said they would have to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or TAS, its acronym in French, in Switzerland.

Also, he stated that with the disaffiliation, the FPF loses “all the legitimate right to use the funds” assigned by Copur and to the trust of the Albergue Olímpico Trust. In the event of the National American Women being certified by the Central, that money would be allocated for their participation.

bumpy presentation

After the vote, Rivera left the hall of the Olympic House in San Juan and refused to comment to the media during the plenary session.

Before the vote, Rosario read a summary of the events that led to the disaffiliation order and the omissions in the FPF constitution. Court of Arbitration and Appeals for Sport (TAAD)which is against the statute of Copur.

Likewise, the president of the FPF, Iván Rivera, made a harsh proposal to protect the federal opinion, but before declaring that he was surprised by what he had heard from Rosario.

Rivera argued that the Olympic charter gives the federations autonomy to direct their affairs. He also reiterated that there is a conflict of power between FIFA and Copur, who have different positions on how the federation should be handled.

In response to questions from the delegate of the Basketball Federation of Puerto Rico, Yum Ramos, Rivera acknowledged that there is no document from FIFA or Concacaf that does not recognize TAAD and affirms that it was abducted by Circular 1010 of 2005, which suggests a direct exit. to CAS *. He also admitted that he did not know if there was any document that he ordered not to review TAAD.

Rosario defended the fairness of TAAD, which Rivera indicated that it does not have because its members were elected by Copur.

The FPF has been under Copur scrutiny since last year after the approval of a new constitution that does not recognize the authority of the TAAD to resolve disputes between its members and insists on taking cases to the TAS.. He also omitted the name of Copur in some articles of the aforesaid constitution. Similarly, he did not comply with TAAD’s decisions to reinstate Miguel Cornejo as a member of the executive committee.

This is the second time the FPF has been disaffiliated. The first time was in 1992, under the chairmanship of Roberto Monroig, after he had a group of national players without blood joining for the United States of America 1994 World Cup qualifiers.

What does he mean?

With the disaffiliation, the FPF will not have representation in the plenary session of Copur, as the highest recognized sporting events on the island. TAAD is likewise the first forum in which sports disputes are resolved in Puerto Rico. In fact, recent judicial decisions, such as the one taken in the case of Sanjuaneras de San Juan against the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation- recognize the jurisdiction of the TAAD to settle sports disputes.

Likewise, the FPF will not be recognized when preparing delegations for regional fairs that are approved by Copur, such as the Central American and Caribbean Games, the Pan American Games, and the Olympic Games.

If the FPF wishes to be sent to Copur, it must formally submit a request and undergo an assessment process.
