The Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the City of Abu Dhabi, the City of Al Ain and the Municipalities of Al Dhafarah Region in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council will launch ‘Active Parks’, a new community fitness program designed to has been done. Encouraging citizens and residents to participate in regular exercise and follow active, outdoor lifestyles by taking advantage of the emirate’s variety of public parks and urban green space in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
The Active Parks Initiative is central to DCD’s ongoing efforts to promote sport and physical activity throughout the community. Running from 30 December to 26 January across the emirate’s 12 parks and urban areas, the four-week fitness participation and educational program features dozens of qualified instructors through more than 380 free-to-attend sessions for anyone aged 15 and over. During the month-long Active Parks program, communities will be able to access a wide range of fun and healthy activities, including DanceFit, RunFit, Bootcamp, CrossFit, and Stretch & Mobility, along with special classes for people in determination. The full schedule of classes is available on the ActiveParks website (www.addcd.gov.ae), while participants can share their progress on social media using #ActiveParks.
Active Parks will run in a dozen parks and urban locations, including Madinat Zayed, Al Ruwais Park 2 and Al Mirfa National Park in the Al Dhafra region; Al Jahili and Al Towaya Park in the city of Al Ain; and Khalifa City Park 3, Sheikha Fatima Park, Dolphin Park, MBZ Park, Sports City Park, Electra Park and Al Shamkha Park 4 in the city and surrounding areas of Abu Dhabi.
With active parks leveraging the emirate’s community parks and urban infrastructure investments, the progressive initiative underscores the Abu Dhabi government’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and healthy habits in line with World Health Organization guidelines, Encourages adults to engage in a minimum of 150.
