Nazareth Torres Molina, researcher at the Public University of Navarra and member of the IMAB Institute, has received the prize from the Federation of European Plant Biology Societies in Marseille (France), recognizing her scientific career. Then, a few months ago, he also received the Sabater Award from the Spanish Society of Plant Biology (SEBP) in Braga (Portugal).
The FESPB award (Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology) was held at the Plant Biology Europe (PBE2023) congress in Marseille last July and consisted of congress attendance, a presentation, and an invitation to publish a review in the Journal of Experimental Botany.
Nazareth Torres’ candidacy for this award was sponsored by the Spanish Society of Plant Biology (SEBP), which awarded the Sabater Prize to the UPNA researcher in May. This award, also presented every two years, recognizes the scientific merit and relevance of work published nationally by young researchers studying the biological processes that control the functioning of plants and the factors that regulate them. Nazareth Torres received one for the Sabater Prize Foundation money of 1200 euros and the registration fee for the SEBP meeting, which took place in Braga (Portugal) last July and at which the researcher held the final conference.
At both conferences, Nazareth Torres presented some of her work in her doctoral and postdoctoral research. Among the aspects addressed is the study of the symbiosis between the vine and the mushroom arbuscular mycorrhiza in climate change scenarios and the effects of vineyard management on soil health, environmental impacts, and microorganisms associated with vines.
Nazareth Torres joined the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) in 2021, First with a contract with Juan de la Cierva Formation and since 2023 with a Ramón y Cajal contract. He is currently developing a new line of research on the management of the soil under the vines and its impact on the interactions between the different microbiological communities of the vineyard soil and the molecular dialogue between the mycorrhizae and the vines.
