The crew of the Edgar Culberston Coast Guard repatriated 74 Cubans this Wednesday after making a stop off the Florida coast.
The crew of a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations unit alerted security guards in the Key West sector of a migrant boat about 50 miles south of Key Rodriguez, about 6:15 a.m. last Thursday.
Key West authorities were notified by a Good Samaritan of a sailboat approximately 30 miles southeast of Plantation Key, at approximately 1:45 p.m. this Saturday.
“The Coast Guard and our partners are doing everything they can to rescue people,” said Lieutenant Conor Ives of Coast Guard District Seven.
Over the past Sunday, at least four groups of migrants were stopped while trying to reach US soil.
The crew of Miami Coast Guard HC-144 aircraft reported a migrant boat was seen approximately 50 miles south of Big Pine Key at approximately 4:30 p.m. this Sunday.
At 8:05 p.m., about 5 miles south of Boca Grande, authorities alerted another migrant boat near Key West.
About 20 miles south of Marquesas Key at about 10 a.m. Sunday, the crew of the Edgar Culberton Coast Guard alerted a boat with an undetermined number of migrants.
And at about the end of the weekend, at about 11:45 p.m., about 10 miles southeast of Government Cut, another vessel was stopped by Miami authorities.
