Pregnant women in the northern region of the state will be treated with new ultrasound medical equipment donated by the Consulate General of the United States of America.
The Ministry of Health received a standard package with ultrasound equipment and two transducers, equipment that will strengthen the chain of prevention of maternal death among pregnant women in the north of the state, especially from the Vicarrica community of the municipalities of Bolaños and Mezquitic.
United States Consul General in Guadalajara, Elijah Al-Lahm, explained that the portable equipment and scales for newborns from the municipalities of Mezquitic and Bolaños are distributed within the framework of the bicentennial celebration of diplomatic relations between the United Nations and the United States. For the states and Mexico, he said, he has the opportunity to highlight the ties of friendship and cooperation that unite the two countries.
The official reminded that maternal health has become a priority public health issue in the world and reducing maternal mortality is one of the most important internationally determined challenges, through care before, during and after delivery. It can save the lives of women and their babies.
With this program the Consulate General of the United States of America in Guadalajara has provided assistance to the health sector in the state in the regions of Colotlán, La Barca and Guadalajara.
Over the past three years, the region has recorded an average of 600 pregnancies, a third of which are among women under the age of 19.
In the northern region, 1,127 consultations have been provided to pregnant women from January to April this year.
