There are various NGOs dedicated to immigrants in the United States, because there are hundreds of thousands of people who face many problems.
If you are an immigrant or about to become one, you should know these organizations, because they can facilitate your passage.
There are various NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) that provide assistance to those people who enter the country, one of them is:
Our Dream is United
United We Dream is an immigrant advocacy NGO, operating in 28 US states.
The organization is led by young immigrants, about 400,000 members in 100 local groups.
60% of its members are women and 20% identify as LGBTQ.
This NGO is promoting the approval of the Deferred Action bill for those immigrants who arrived as children.
United We Dream ensures that people develop their leadership and organizational skills.
It started in the USA
It started in 2008, when César Vargas, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico and law student, began to build a flexible network of young immigrants.
He is sad that his condition will affect his ability to complete law school and find others in similar situations.
Years later, the network gained visibility in public demonstrations, including a four-month trip to Washington, DC to lobby for the DREAM Act.
Then, after the failure to approve the DREAM Act bill in the United States Congress.
The group split into three, which used different tactics but shared the “dream” brand: United We Dream, DreamActivist and Dream Action Coalition, with United We Dream being the largest.
In 2021, Google gave about $250,000 to United We Dream to help pay for the DACA application.
During the presidency of Barack Obama, this NGO lobbied to protect immigrant children brought to the US.
That’s why the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) bill was created.
This bill allowed immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, work permits, and attend college.
