The USC women’s volleyball team (11-7, 5-3 Pac-12) fell to California (13-6, 2-6) in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 25-21) at Haas Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 15.

- OH Skylar Mountains led USC with 22 kills (8e, 61att,.230) and added seven digs and a block. It was her 47th time in double-digit kills as a Trojan and her 26th time with 20 or more kills in a game.

- Jr. S My Tuaniga dished out 38 assists with nine digs, three kills, and one block.

- So. MB Tyrah Ariail had a match-high six blocks and had six kills (2e, 16att) on 250 hits.

- So. LIB Gala Trumpet posted 19 digs with five assists. It was her 38th double-digit dig (13th this season).

- Sr. MB Lindsey Miller scored nine kills (1e, 19att) with 421 hitting and posted four blocks (two solo).

- For the Golden Bears, Maggie Li led the way with 17 kills and seven digs. Mikayla Hayden posted 10 kills on 500 hits and had two blocks. Annalea Maeder dished out 35 assists with nine digs and six kills. Tara DeSa led all players with 22 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- California outshot USC, 239 to 228, and had the advantage in kills, 52-49. The Trojans outshot Cal 10-4, but the Bears had more digs (63-58) and more service aces (7-1).

- The Trojans led the Bears 9-8 in the first, but Cal turned on the Jets to run away with a 25-14 victory. 500 hitting with 14 kills as a team. USC had nine kills and hit just 100 in the opening frame.

- Fields had five kills in the second, and the Trojans hit 250, but it wasn’t enough to stop the attack of the Golden Bears, who stayed hot at.278 with five kills from Hayden to take the 2-0 lead in the game in a 25-21 victory.

- USC claimed a 25-15 victory in the third. Fields led the Trojans with seven of the team’s 15 kills, and USC produced 20 digs in the set to hold the Bears to just eight kills on 059 hitting. Trubint had four digs to lead the effort. At the net, the Women of Troy posted four blocks and got the first ace of the match from Trubint late in the set.

- The Bears built an early lead in the fourth, and USC never got within three as Cal pulled away for a 25-21 fourth-set win. Fields had five more kills, and USC hit 243 in the fourth, but Li had six kills to cap the Golden Bears hitting output in the win.

- USC returns home to host Washington State (17-2, 7-1 Pac-12) and Washington (13-6, 4-4) at the Galen Center next week. The Trojans and the Cougars meet Friday (Oct. 20) for Kids Club and Kids Corner Night at 7 p.m. PT which will be shown on the Pac-12 Insider livestream. The Women of Troy then host the Huskies for Sunday Funday (Oct. 22) in a 2 p.m. PT contest scheduled to be covered by a USC live stream.

- USC fell to 67-13 all-time against California and had its 14-game winning streak snapped against the Golden Bears. The Trojans go 30-8 as visitors to Berkeley and fall to Cal at Haas Pavilion for the first time since 2009 (Oct. 31).
