A Utah teen allegedly stabbed a girl he found on Tinder before randomly stabbing an elderly woman on Thursday, officials said.
Ken Thomas Fairbanks, 18, allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old girl after luring her in Mueller Park outside the city of Bountiful. According to a release from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, the two met on a dating app a few days ago.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune, police said the couple, who had once previously met in person, spent several hours together in the park, when they suddenly “held her” around 6:30 p.m. Forced into his vehicle”.
Fairbanks allegedly stabbed the girl several times with “a fixed blade about a foot in length,” according to the document.
The girl was able to fight back and track down witnesses, who “helped create a barrier between Fairbanks and the victim,” police said.
Fortunately, among the witnesses were two nurses and an EMT who assisted the victims while they waited for the respondents to arrive.
The Tribune reported that the teen suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police said Fairbanks fled the scene and drove to a gas station in Bountiful where he left the vehicle.
According to arresting documents, he “threw the girl’s phone in an area where he believed it would not be found” before continuing with the violence.
According to police, Fairbanks approached a 64-year-old woman in another affluent neighborhood and allegedly stabbed her several times. The woman has suffered fatal injuries.
The second victim fought against her assailant, who was assisted by witnesses as he fled the scene.
Police said a “Good Samaritan” who saw her nearby held her until she was taken into police custody.
The condition of both the victims is stable after being treated at local hospitals.
Fairbanks told detectives that the stabbing was premeditated, and that he had planned additional attacks, police said.
He told the police that ever since he started chatting with him on Tinder, he intended to kill the victim first.
Investigators wrote that he planned to stay out of his car and continue hitting people who “he thought were weak,” which they cited as the motivation for stabbing the elderly woman.
According to the statement of probable cause, the teen “talked at length about killing his parents and siblings with an axe”, and told detectives that if he was released he would kill people he met on social media. will continue.
Fairbanks is being held at the Davis County Jail. He faces two counts of attempt to murder, two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of grievous abduction.
He is being held without bail, prison records show.
