UVA Renews Ban Against Unite The Right Rally Organizer | World Nation News

Charlottesville, VA ( Associated Press) – The University of Virginia has renewed an order banning an organizer of the Unite the Right rally from school grounds, a university police spokesman said.

As The Daily Progress reports, the department issued a no-trespass order against Jason Kessler in 2018 after clashes with students at the university’s School of Law Library and renewed the order last week.

In the original order, police cited reports that Kessler threatened students on the basis of protected features and that he deliberately misled police about his torch march held at the university the night before the rally. The university said in a statement on Tuesday that for the same reasons the new supersession notice was issued on April 20. It will be effective till further notice.

These orders may be reissued before the expiration of four years if any person “engages in ongoing conduct which is likely to endanger the health, safety or property of any member of the University or its medical center community, a patient or visitors to the medical center, the educational process, or for other reasons.”

University graduate Kessler appealed the order in 2018, accusing the students of “having evidence of Jews chasing and harassing them” and saying he was the victim of racial harassment. But an independent advisor upheld the university’s decision that Kessler had deliberately misled police about the march, which ended in violence. The rally turned deadly the next day when a self-styled admirer of Adolf Hitler rammed his car into a crowd of protestors, killing one and injuring dozens.

In October 2018, the university issued trespass warnings to another 10 white supremacists based on their actions during an August 2017 torch-lit rally on campus. They are set to expire on October 25.

Last year, a jury ordered 17 white nationalist organizations and leaders, including Kessler, to pay $26 million for violence that broke out during the deadly rally. Kessler and the other defendants are seeking to reduce or renegotiate the damages.
