Minister Vallejo was consulted about summoning three figures from the Democratic Revolution, as defendants, for the so-called Covenants case.
The Minister Spokesperson for the Government, Camila Vallejo, was consulted this Wednesday about the situation of Javiera Martínez (Director of the Budget), Miguel Crispi (Chief of Advisors of La Moneda) and Giorgio Jackson (former Minister), who were supposed to be summoned to testify as witnesses accused in the Antofagasta Prosecutor’s Office, in the middle of the Case of Agreements.
“What is true is that the Republican Party filed a complaint against these people long ago, and what is clear from the moment it was filed is that by filing a complaint, one alleges that complaint to a type of crime that needs to be investigated. people. And at that time, the plaintiff accused the people who were allegedly mentioned of certain crimes. So, it’s clear that at some point that will eventually happen,” said the Secretary of State .
It added that “it is part of the procedure when there are complainants, in this case the Republican Party against individuals. So when this happens, it is not surprising.”
“(…) Here a party decided to hold three individuals from a political party, namely the Democratic Revolution, personally responsible for the case of the Covenants, targeting them politically. And justice, when a complaint of this kind is filed, the equivalent is that at some point they are summoned to testify as defendants because they are accused of being possible violators of the law of the Republican Party.
“We are dealing with a political action by the Republican Party. In fact, there has been a political purpose in the Republican Party for a long time,” Vallejo said.
Case of Agreement
Let’s remember that former Minister Jackson was unfairly accused of crimes he did not commit (…). Former Minister Jackson was accused of libelous and slanderous crimes. In the case of the Republican Party, not only were these people publicly accused of crimes, but complaints were filed.
“Therefore, it is not just a media-communicative political action, but they have also changed it into a judicial action. And since it has been changed by judicial action, it is now in an autonomous power and what corresponds to these complaints is to continue to investigate,” stated the spokesperson of the Government.
The minister also emphasized that “the quality of summoning the defendants is part of a normal procedure. Even if it sounds ugly, it is part of the normal thing that happens when someone files a complaint against you for an alleged crime, but legally that is normal.”
In addition, in the case of the Budget Director, Vallejo said that “he has the support of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Finance. “You know that the President has established a position on this, which no one here can count on who is an armored person.”
“But we will not go on a hunt for the actions of the extreme right, linked to this issue to make a permanent political point,” said Vallejo.
