The Vikings will face the 49ers for the first time since the playoff defeat to San Francisco’s 27-10 divisions in the 2019 season. Minnesota is trying to get back to the playoffs after missing last year, and this is a key game in this quest.
Seven teams will play NFC postseason, with Vikings entering 6th place on Sunday. 49th – number 7. The winner will receive a potentially valuable tie-break.
Both teams won two games in a row after 3-5 starts. The Vikings have done this mostly by air with quarterback Kirk Cousins, who has averaged 317.5 yards in his last two wins. The 49ers have done so with a strong ground attack, averaging 163.5 yards in their last two wins.
The game features two of the NFL’s best young receivers. Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson made 53 catches on 944 yards and six touchdowns in his second season. Dibo Samuel of San Francisco had 55 receptions for 994 yards and five TDs in his third year.
Both teams are good at speeding up the passer. The Vikings have 31 sacks, although they will be without all their favorite players on the defensive line. The 49s have 23 sacks, including 10 for defender Nick Boosa.
