Vote: Southern California Girls Athlete of the Week, January 21

Every week, publications from 11 properties of the Southern California newsgroup (Orange County Register, LA Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts , Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each athlete is then included in the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Click on the newspaper link below his name to read about the athlete’s performance over the past week, and then vote who you think deserves the top honors.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Polling ends at midnight, but the final total is not always visible immediately due to processing.

Brianna Graham, Bonita: Graham played a big role as the Bearcats improved to 11–7 and 4–0 on aggregate in the Palomares League. She scored 20 points with 12 rebounds in her 45–42 win over Clermont, and in another big Test against Glendora, she scored 10 points to go with 13 rebounds in her 45–38 win. Graham added 18 points in a dominating 62-18 win over Ayala.

Tatum Tamashiro, Rolling Hills Prep: Tamashiro made a pair of 27-point performances last week. He gave the Husky a 68–25 win over the Vistaars and then went on to win a 58–48 loss to Troy with 27 points.

Lani White, Mater Dei: The Utah-bound forward scored a career-high 27 points and added six rebounds to lead the top-ranked Monarchs to an 80-65 victory against No. 2 Rosary in the Trinity League. White averaged 19.7 points, while Mater Dei took three wins during the week.

Nikki Velasco, The Royal Road: Velasco scored one goal in a 2–0 win over Palisades and twice in a 6–0 win over North Hollywood. The sophomore forward is the team’s second leading scorer with four goals behind Ava Tibor’s 10. Velasco is also the team’s second best distributor with three assists.

Kiana Felix, Patriot: The senior forward registered three goals last week as the Warriors won two games to remain unbeaten in a River Valley League game. He scored both goals in a 2–1 road win over Arlington, a victory that gave the Patriots the only right to first place in the league standings. Felix scored another goal in the team’s 4–0 win over La Sierra. The Patriots are 10-2-2 this season and have won six matches in a row.

Isabella Yakel, Long Beach Poly: The Portland-bound midfielder scored a goal in the Jackrabbits’ 2-1 win over Long Beach Wilson to keep Moore League’s hopes alive. In Paulie’s previous match, Yakel scored four goals against Lakewood. Against Wilson, he scored his 13th goal of the season to start Pauley’s comeback in a 2–1 victory.
