Waukesha Christmas Parade suspect Darrell Brooks faces 71 new charges

Waukesha Christmas Parade suspect Darrell Brooks now faces 71 new charges after prosecutors filed an amended complaint on Wednesday.

The new charges include 61 counts of first-degree negligence endangering security, six counts of hit-and-run involving death, two counts of jumping on bail and two counts of domestic abuse.

In total, Brooks now faces 77 charges.

Waukesha Christmas Parade suspect Darrell Brooks charged with intentional murder

Brooks was previously charged with six counts of first-degree intentional murder on November 23, after allegedly driving his maroon Ford Escape into a crowd of people at a Christmas parade in Waukesha. At the time, he was reportedly on the run from the scene of a separate domestic incident.

A total of six people, including a small child, were killed in the incident that took place on November 21.

Wilhelm Hospel, 81, Virginia Sorenson, 79; Lianna Owen, 71; 52-year-old Tamara Durand, 52-year-old Jane Kulich and 8-year-old Jackson Sparks died.

Brooks is due to appear in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing in the case.

Brooks has a criminal record since 1999, and was convicted of statutory sexual solicitation in 2006 after having sex with a 15-year-old girl who later became pregnant.

He was out on $1,000 bail in November after a woman accused him of punching and using his car, which was the same vehicle used in the Waukesha attack.

On November 3, a junior prosecutor requested $1,000 in bail after Brooks allegedly used his red Ford Escape to crush his ex-girlfriend.

In February, Brooks posted a $500 bond and was freed after an incident where he allegedly shot his nephew in the summer of 2020.
