The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has released an unusual forecast for this Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Mexico. The country is under the influence of many phenomena that produce different and sometimes extreme climates for different regions.
One of the main causes of the atypical climate is the passage of Cold Front number 4, associated with Tropical Storm Lidia and the formation of potential Tropical Cyclone Max (Sixteenth-E). This combination caused rain, from very heavy to torrential, over much of Mexico’s territory.
What are the states affected by rain?
The states most affected by the heavy rains include Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz, Chiapas, and Tabasco. On the other hand, heavy rain is expected in Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Campeche, while Sinaloa, Durango, Hidalgo, Yucatán and Quintana Roo will experience heavy rain.
In the north of the country, states such as Coahuila, Nuevo León, Querétaro, State of Mexico, and Morelos will experience occasional heavy rains. In addition, periods of rain are expected in many regions, such as Sonora, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, San Luis PotosÃ, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Mexico City, and Tlaxcala.
On the other hand, some areas will face high temperatures, with a maximum of 35 to 40 °C in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. In Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Veracruz, Puebla (southwest), and Morelos, between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius will be recorded.
What is the weather forecast for Mexico City and the State of Mexico?
In particular, for the Valley of Mexico, a morning with fog, cloudy skies, and a cold-to-cold atmosphere is expected, with banks of fog and rain in some areas. In the afternoon, intervals of rain are expected in Mexico City, while in the State of Mexico, heavy occasional rains are expected with possible hail, accompanied by electric shocks.
Likewise, the lowest temperature reaches between 11 and 15 °C in Mexico City, and from 11 to 13 degrees Celsius in the state of Mexico, while the highest temperature is between 18 and 21 °C.
