The United States managed to surprise curious onlookers and strangers during their U-17 World Cup. Thanks to a very attractive attacking football and the remarkable emergence of Nimbadana Berchimas, USYNT dominated its matches with an iron fist to achieve the overall victory. However, the work in the group stage of the U-17 World Cup is not yet done for the small contenders. Gonzalo Segares’ men will end this round in a high-profile duel against the mighty France, one of the favourites. With leadership in jeopardy, Americans want to leave the world open-mouthed again.
What does USA need to be a leader?
The United States still has homework to do. Even though the Segares team has already qualified in matamata no matter what happens tomorrow, the question now is whether the ambition can create a team that wants to surprise the leadership. Currently, the United States are joint leaders in Group E with France with six points each, with the French leading by goal difference (they scored one more than the Americans). Tomorrow’s game will decide the order of the group positions.

If the United States wants to finish this round on top, USYNT can only win against its European opponent. A draw will maintain the status quo in the group as the Americans will continue to be behind in the scoring aspect. For their part, a defeat would knock them out of the fray. Segares needs another outstanding performance from Berchimas if he wants to continue his winning streak through the youth tournament. The Charlotte native is the team’s top scorer with three goals in his first two games, just behind Japan’s Rento Takaoka.
