The 49ers lost their fourth game in a row on Sunday night when the Colts took to the rain-drenched Levi Stadium and beat them 30-18.
The San Francisco secondary player waived four transmission interference penalties and was unable to stop Carson Wentz and Michael Pittman Jr. joining the Colts.
Jimmy Garoppolo played three games in the fourth quarter, cutting Indianapolis’s lead to two points and bringing hope to Niners fans in the rain. But he dropped the interception in the next two races to stifle any hope of a comeback.
Team 49ers, which were aiming to win NFC West, are now ranked 2-4 with nothing more to wait. The next chance to end the losing streak is Halloween, next Sunday in Chicago.
Here’s what Coach Kyle Shanahan and his team were told after they dried up after the defeat:
Kyle Shanahan
About Transmission Interference Penalties:
“It was a struggle all year, and today was the worst. It’s always hard to get back on their feet … We gave them too many explosive gifts, especially those two touchdowns in the first half. ”
About calling it:
“We made a mess. I didn’t see it at all … Everyone was shouting that there was fuss and stuff, and to quit it, and then, it’s very strange, but the headphones went off completely, and so you see that I’m sitting there talking to (officials). I thought, “I gave it up because it was a lack of skill, but I can’t get anyone.” They were going to give it back to me, they said it was okay, they let me pick it up, but they called from the NFL and said I should stick with it. ”
About changes in the composition:
“I think in these four games we changed the staff a lot every week, so now I’m not going to do something radical. I’ll go check out the tape and stuff, and hopefully we get a couple more guys back this week, but we’ll see what gives us the best chance.
On criticizing him:
“Yes, you are losing four games in a row, and I am the head coach of this team. I expect and deserve it. ”
On whether Jimmy Garoppolo will come out as quarterback next week in Chicago:
“I think yes. I will watch the cassette and see if the guys are healthy. … I need to worry about the whole team. Don’t just think about the QB situation right now. We will evaluate everything, see who will give us the best chance to beat Chicago, and see what options are there. We had two quarterbacks who were in pain this week. Jimmy was able to come back and play. Let’s see if Trey can next week. Not sure yet. But there is a lot to be clarified. ”
Jimmy Garoppolo
About losing streak:
“It’s hard, very hard, especially considering the losses. We had a good start today, and we couldn’t stand it the whole game. We need to get back on track against Chicago. ”
About weather:
“This is my first time wearing gloves. It worked really well. I thought I could still spin it pretty well. There was much less (rain) in the beginning, and it was gathering more and more. It got tough on my feet, but we played at that kind of stuff, so there was nothing crazy about it. ”
Something went wrong:
“I’m not really sure. I have to watch the movie. The weather played a small role, it was picked up there. We just didn’t follow through and there were too many mistakes overlapping. One guy will make a mistake here, another there. You cannot do this and win games all the time. We have to go back to the drawing board and not repeat so many mistakes in a row. ”
About his second interception:
“I didn’t climb, I didn’t finish the throw, so he swam away. It’s hard to play all night in this kind of weather from the start, with the kind of mental toughness you should have, and when things go wrong, it’s frustrating. We’re going to stick together. We have playmakers. We have good trainers. We must stick together. ”
On caviar:
“It has survived, I will say. Definitely felt it at times. It is what it is. All of us guys, we play with something. … I can feel it, but it doesn’t bother me. ”
On any junk talk from ex-fighter DeForest Buckner:
“DeFo was very locked up throughout the game. We were there too, but nothing out of the ordinary. ”
On why the offender made so many mistakes:
“I don’t know. I don’t have one particular thing. Whatever game is called, we have to play it. It’s about spending more time, more effort, staying longer, spending more hours. At the moment, these are small things.
“The NFL is crazy. One week, you’re on top. One week and you are at the bottom. Each team has its ups and downs. We are now at the lowest point. But we can fight back. ”
On newbie Jylon Moore starting left tackle:
“He held his own, being his first start. He came in with the right mindset, locked up and ready to go. He played very well. There were some highlights in this game: Elijah had 100 points, Dibo played very well. ”
Fred Warner
To start 2-4:
“You can do it in a variety of ways. The bottom line is that we don’t play well enough. I can take turns and it will be each person. There are things I need to do better. This is how everyone should look at it. If you thought you were working hard and doing enough, you need to do more. … We must understand this. We have no choice. ”
By PI calls:
“I don’t know if there is a definite answer to this. We need to do more of this in practice, or get more reps. … It is obvious that in this area we must be better. Carson, this is where he got his yards from defensive pass interference.
By thinking:
“Thinking, whether they get PI or explosive play, you have to get up. We need to play better in the red zone. We are missing too many points. We have to get better. ”
Dressing room message:
“I had a message for the guys. I’ll leave it there. Just know that everyone needs to work better and work harder. ”
Dibo Samuel
Something went wrong:
“These are definitely all the little things we have to do for the whole week, just let them reschedule them on Sunday.”
About weather:
“I think we tried hard to keep the ball as dry as possible, but in a wide range it is quite difficult to catch a wet ball. (The field) was great. There was no need to wear big pimples, so they did it well. ”
About team wrestling:
“I just feel like we personally have to go out and just be the team that we know about. Much better than what our record shows and much better than what we have recorded on tape. ”
On whether the problem is execution or schema:
“I don’t think this is a scheme. Kyle has been doing a great job all week giving us the opportunity to play. We have to focus on the details and come together. ”
Nick Bose
About fines:
“They hurt, but we are always confident in our guys. Fred is doing a great job of restoring our minds and getting us ready for the job. ”
On the team’s mood before the game:
“It’s good. We enter every game with a good mentality.”
By field conditions:
It wasn’t bad. It’s just obvious that the style of play is changing and there is a lot here – it turns into a running game where the guys can’t throw and catch. It’s just that the playstyle turns into a running play and fewer passing opportunities.
Corner Josh Norman
How he feels:
“I feel like I was hit by a train, but I will be fine. You don’t feel good when you lose. You put everything into it. This is a terrible feeling. But we have guys in the locker room. ”
By PI calls:
“Obviously, this is an offensive league, so the moment you remove the sting becomes the moment you relax. They caught you. We just need to understand that we have to be better in certain situations like this. At the same time, I had to stay with the stinger. You have to be better in certain situations, when the ball is in the air, knowing that if they toss it, it will no longer be 50-50. We just need to practice it and do it. ”
For deep eggs:
“We just have to do our job better. I know that in certain pieces I need to do better. Minors generally understand what is being asked of us. The coaches place us in positions, and we just have to play. We have guys too. It’s all about us, about what we do. So we need to be better. We will do it, we have a coaching staff and players. ”
On what he means by “not even 50 to 50 more”:
“This is a league through passage. Everyone wants to see glasses. We are kind of at a disadvantage from this. But at the same time, whether it goes our way or not, we still have the execution. They get paid just like us. We must be able to fight the opposition. It all starts in practice. ”
“Sometimes the teams are just cheering. When they do, we must adopt the “This is my ball” mindset. We have to take a better position and we will do it. ”
Backward Runner Elijah Mitchell
About what happened offensively to slow down:
“We always talk longer about doing better. This played a big role. We tried to control the ball the way we should and stay away from the third down. ”
On what worked well in the first episode:
“The O-line worked, the juice, the receivers, they were rooted to the spot, and we succeeded.”
About Jylon Moore:
“Well done. Trent wasn’t there, so he took it very seriously, and I’m proud of him for that.”
In the locker room:
“We just lost, so everyone just fell.”
About Jimmy G.
“He always makes sure that we don’t lose our heads and remain the leader.”
About conditions:
“You just need to defend the ball. This is what always causes stress. ”
