WhatsApp announces 11 new features in 2022

Instant messaging app WhatsApp is now owned by Meta and has announced a number of features that will be introduced in 2022. The new features are intended to enhance the user experience of this Meta-owned app.

Some of these features are available for beta testers on Android and iOS platforms.

But WhatsApp has not yet made it clear on a specific date to launch each new feature. Once released, the feature joins the company’s new voice messaging system released a few weeks ago.

According to WhatsApp, “Schools, local clubs and non-profit organizations now rely on WhatsApp to communicate and do things safely – especially since the outbreak has forced us to look for innovative ways to work together.

“We think it will make it easier for communities to bring the school principal together with all the parents of the school to share updates and form groups for specific classes, extracurricular activities or volunteer needs.”

These features will be released in the coming weeks so even before the community is ready for people to try them out.

Here is a list of the features that WhatsApp has announced this year.

1. Emotions

WhatsApp is responding to messages similar to those on other meta-owned platforms – Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

The feature allows users to ‘respond’ to emojis for messages. Users simply tap the message they want to reply to and drag their finger to the appropriate emoji. The answer appears below the text and is visible to all team members.

2. Communities

The nature of the communities on WhatsApp allows people to gather different groups under a structured umbrella. Users can easily receive updates sent to the entire community and easily organize small discussion groups on issues that are important to them. Communities will bring new tools for administrators, including advertising messages to everyone and controlling which groups can be included.

3. The group administrator can delete messages from another user.

In future updates, WhatsApp group administrators will be able to remove erroneous or troublesome messages from everyone’s chat. So far, only senders have been allowed to delete their messages.

4. File sharing capacity increased to 2 GB.

With the upcoming updates on WhatsApp, the platform supports up to 2 GB of file transfer, making it easier for people to collaborate on one project. Currently, WhatsApp only allows 100MB of files at a time.

5. Voice calls get new design and support for up to 32 users

WhatsApp introduces up to 32 people with a single tap of the new design. The company is changing the application window design that appears during group voice calls. During the group call, the forum is raising the volume for all participants. Sound waves are similar to those seen on sound notes. Changes in design are small but give a new look to the page.

6. Pause and resume recording voicemail

WhatsApp users can now stop and continue recording audio messages. Users can see the new pause option when they start recording voicemail in manual mode. So far, users have had to re-record voicemail in case of any interruptions. The feature is useful when recording long voice messages.

7. Continue with the voicemail where you stopped

WhatsApp users do not need to listen to voicemail all at once. You can pause the voicemail and continue listening. This feature is useful for listening to longer voice messages.

8. Play voicemail outside of WhatsApp chats.

WhatsApp users can listen to audio notes even after leaving the chat or using another app. This feature helps save time as users can respond to other conversations while listening to audio notes. Prior to the feature, users had to stay in the chat to listen to the audio recording.

9.Waveform design voice messages

WhatsApp users can now view voicemail representation. According to the company, the design allows users to follow the recording. WhatsApp also introduced the same wavelength design for voice calls.

10. Listen to the voicemail before you send it

WhatsApp users can now listen to their own recorded audio message before sending it. So far, users have only had the option of directly copying and pasting without hearing it. The feature works in conjunction with the new stop and resume feature for voicemail recording.

11. Fast playback on voice messages

WhatsApp now gives users the opportunity to play and listen to voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speed. A new 1x speed key now appears next to the voicemail player. You can tap the new key to change the playback speed of any voicemail.
