Chef Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois estimates the median annual salary of Quebecers to be $55,000. He wants millionaires to pay the state $1,000 for every $1 million, a 0.1% deduction. In this sense, 95% of Quebecers would not pay much, only the richest 5%.
“To create a more just society in Quebec Solidaire, we have the courage to tell millionaires that we must contribute more.”
The announcement sparked strong reactions to the “La Joute” program on LCN’s broadcast on Wednesday. While former MP Amir Khadir has defended the QS leader, others are questioning the ideology of solidarity.
But a question arises: who are the rich in Quebec? Emmanuel Latravers tries to answer that.
“The 1% of society in Quebec earns $200,000 or more. There are 65,000. Not all of them are millionaires, but (…) he’s a public service retiree with an annual pension of $45,000 a year and who has $200 or more in his household. has equity of $300,000”, says the analyst, citing QS.
“My dear Emmanuel, where do you get that?”, to challenge Amir Khadir, according to whom there is a “re-transmission error” of the data.
“These measures affect a maximum of 5% of people”, he said, thus causing outrage from the panelists.
