Wildcats set hitting record in sweep over Humboldt State. local roundup

The Chico State women’s volleyball team set a team record on Friday by beating Humboldt State at Acre Gym.

In a 3–0 (25–13, 25–14, 25–9) victory over the Lumberjacks, the Wildcats set a program record on the night with a .515 hitting percentage.

Chico made just six mistakes on 66 swings and scored 40 goals in his second win over Humboldt State this season.

Makaela Kiev and Zoe Dinardo led the balanced Chico State attack with 10 kills, while Lizzie Wilson and Kelly Jacom recorded nine kills. Between them, the ‘Cats’ quartet made just three attacking errors all night.

Brooke Ono made 31 assists, scored nine digs, had two blocks and a service ace. Kennedy Greenwood had nine digs to go with four assists, Jane McNulty added six digs and three aces, and Ali Collins had a pair for Chico State.

The Wildcats improved to 9–14 in the season and 5–10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Humboldt State lost its ninth straight match and slipped 3–15 and 2–13 in conference play.

Butte 1, Feather River 1: Butte College’s men’s soccer team toured Feather River College on Friday afternoon, 1–1.

Quentin Ben-John scored the roadrunner’s goal in the 81st minute with the help of Idris Obrik. Feather River scored on a penalty kick in the 92nd minute to secure the draw. Butte had 16 shots on goal. Austin Mathews scored three goals.

Butte (11-3-1, 5-1-1 Golden Valley Conference) will conclude the regular season on Tuesday at home against Siskieus.

college women’s football

Butte 1, Feather River 0: Former Paradise High product Alison Brough scored the only goal of the game as the Roadrunner closed Feather River in Quincy on Friday. With the win, coach Shelby Juppen’s team finished second in the GVC.

The discount is 5-2 in GVC play and 8-6-1 on aggregate.

Butte (8-6-1, 5-2 GVC) plays Tuesday at 2 p.m. at home against the College of the Siquicious to close out the regular season. Butte defeated Siskieus 4–0 on 15 October.

college men’s basketball

Contra Costa 95, Butte 91: Issac Wood and Trey Wilburn scored 21 points in the Los Positas tournament.

Rolonte Knowles added 15 points and Shakwon Lewis added 11 points.

Butte (1-1) will play at the College of Marin next Wednesday at 4 pm.

high school football

Orland 63, Central Valley 0: Braden Schumann led the Trojans to victory over the Falcons, rushing 10 times for 164 yards and four touchdowns.

Grant Foster scored a touchdown and got 48 yards on two carries. The quarterback also completed two passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.

Andrew Rubio and Cody Baylor also scored for Orland in the final regular season game of the season.

Orland (8-2, 4-1 Northern Athletic League) next plays at home against West Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. in a playoff matchup.
