Will banks be open on November 1 and 2 for Day of the Dead 2023?

The celebration of the Day of the Dead is one of the most important traditions of the year, as it commemorates those who have died and those who are no longer with us. In Mexico, an altar is covered with papel picado, pictures, food, bread for the dead, and marigold flowers. However, a frequently asked question that arises is the date when banks will open on November 1 and 2, 2023.

According to the school calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), students will be out of class next Thursday, November 2; However, they must attend classrooms regularly on Wednesday, November 1.

The opposite happens with workers. The Federal Labor Law specifies that work is done normally on November 1 and 2. If a person works on those days, they do not receive additional payment for providing their services. Despite this, some companies give November 2 as a rest day, or only ask to work a half shift.

Although it is not a mandatory holiday, some banking institutions close their doors and suspend services for the Day of the Dead.

Next Wednesday, November 1, all banks in Mexico must be open and must provide their services normally, as reported by the Association of Banks of Mexico. In this sense, customer service at the counters will be available on November 1, the same will happen at ATMs.

It is worth mentioning that mobile applications and online banking will work normally even though it is the Day of the Dead.

On Thursday, November 2, banks in Mexico will remain closed for the Day of the Dead. The closure includes banks and branches. However, ATMs will continue to provide service 24 hours a day so that workers have their money.

If you need any papers at the window, you need to go before November 2, because the banks are closed all day. There is no half day work in banking institutions.

In addition to the closing of banks on November 2, financial institutions will also close next Monday, November 20 as part of the commemoration of the start of the Mexican Revolution. On the November long weekend, banks are closed for three days: November 18, 19 and 20.

Therefore, it is important that the procedures and withdrawals in the window are carried out in front to avoid any failures.

Remember that Monday, November 20, will be an official holiday for workers. If a person works that day, he should receive additional compensation on top of their daily wages.
