Wisconsin, National Democrats launch coordinated campaign

Madison, Wis. ( Associated Press) – Wisconsin Democrats on Thursday announced a joint effort with national party leaders in what they are calling the largest mid-term coordinated campaign in state history to re-elect Gov. and defeating Republican US Sen. Ron Johnson,

The Forward for Wisconsin effort is a partnership involving the state and national Democratic parties, the Evers campaign, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Democrats promised to target rural parts of the state, which have been trending toward Republicans in recent elections.

The effort will also target communities of color, college students and tribal members. All those voters traditionally favor Democrats, but ousting them in the midterm election will be especially important for Democrats in an almost equally divided state.

President Joe Biden won Wisconsin in 2020 by less than 21,000 votes, almost the same margin as Donald Trump won in 2016. Evers won in 2018 by just 29,000 votes. But history is not on Ever’s side. The presidential party’s candidate has lost the previous eight races for governor of Wisconsin.

four republicans Running in the August 9 primary to take Evers. They are former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Clayfish, construction company co-owner Tim Mitchell, business consultant Kevin Nicholson and state representative Timothy Ramthun.

There is also a sizable field of Democratic candidates to take on Johnson. The top candidate is Lt Sarkar. Mandela BarnesMilwaukee Bucks executive Alex LassariState Treasurer Sarah GodlewskiOutgamy County Executive Tom Nelson and Steven Olikara, founder of the Millennial Action Project.

Both sides are already dumping millions in each of those races in television commercials. Both races have high priorities for Republicans and Democrats at the national level. Johnson’s race can determine which party controls the Senate. And if Evers loses, Republicans will be able to enact whatever laws they want, given the large GOP majority in the state legislature.

Democratic Attorney General Josh Cowley As longtime Secretary of State Doug La Follette, is also up for re-election. Republicans running to take them want to shift election duties In that office and away from a bipartisan commission, escalating the stakes typically results in a sleepless race as the office currently holds almost no power or responsibilities.
